This is an opportunity to have your say and to find out more about the detailed route plans, information about issues such as about parking/access provision, route maintenance, and your chance to view a computer generated 3D interpretation of new river Wye bridge designs.

Severn Bridge Ride

Sunday 10 May 2009 2pm
Start: Chepstow Rugby Club, Bulwark

Join Wye Valley Families for Safer Cycling on a ride to promote the proposed shared use path from Chepstow to Tintern and Brockweir:

Meet at 2pm on Sunday 10th May 2009 at Chepstow Rugby Club, Bulwark.  There is plenty of parking and the bar will be open prior to the ride and up until about 4pm.

The route will head on sideroads to pick up the Wye Valley Link Road cycle path, and then cross the Severn Bridge.  There is an option on the English side for those with young children to follow the cycle path into the Severn View Services for an ine-cream before heading back for Chepstow – a total distance of about 6 miles.

The rest of us will carry on along B roads and country lanes to the White Hart PH in Littleton on Severn.  This is a delightful country pub with a large garden and it serves excellent quality refreshments.  We will then complete a circuit of country lanes to return to the bridge and the ride back to the rugby club.  The total distance is approximately 16 miles.

Depending on the number of riders, we may split into smaller groups to keep things safe, and to allow everyone to do the ride at a pace they are comfortable with.

Transition Chepstow

Wednesday 25th Feb 2009 19:00 - 21:30
Drill Hall, Lower Church Street, Chepstow, NP16 5HJ

Transition Chepstow is a community initiative that is trying to find local solutions to global problems. This is their launch event. Jeremy Cowen, our press officer, will be helping to provide information on sustainable transport.

If you are interested in attending you can reserve a seat using the details on the Transition Chepstow website

Last week I stayed with Kate Humble at her beautiful home in the Wye Valley. We spent the weekend walking the dogs around the ruins of Tintern Abbey. Sustrans, the sustainable transport charity based in Bristol, hopes to reopen the Wye Valley railways line as a 'greenway' giving a traffic-free alternative to walkers, cyclists and riders between Chepstow and Brockweir, via Tintern. They would be applauded, as the link would provide a welcome attraction to the region.
